1982年、大宮〜盛岡間をつなぐ〈東北の希望の列車〉が、日本の鉄道に新たな歴史を刻みました。それから40年以上。今では東京～新青森まで伸び、四季折々の風景の中を走っています。

In 1982, a new chapter in Japan’s railway history began as the Tohoku Shinkansen connected Omiya and Morioka—a train of hope for the Tohoku region. More than 40 years later, the line now stretches all the way to Shin-Aomori, traveling through breathtaking seasonal landscapes.
In March 2011, the Hayabusa, Japan’s fastest Shinkansen, was born—connecting cities at incredible speed.

三菱一号館美術館では、6月13日より「“カフェ”に集う芸術家―印象派からゴッホ、ロートレック、ピカソまで」が開幕します。〈バー＆カフェ カメリア〉ではこの展覧会の会期にあわせタイアップカクテルをご用意しました！
ピカソが愛飲したといわれるリキュール「スーズ」をベースに、芸術家たちが集う“カフェ”にいつしか寄り添う黒猫をイメージ。今にも猫が飛び出してきそうな、遊び心あふれる一杯を鑑賞後の余韻とともに味わうひとときはいかがでしょうか。

Starting June 13, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum presents Artists Gathering in Cafés — From the Impressionists to Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso. To coincide with the exhibition, Bar & Cafe Camellia has created a special collaboration cocktail inspired by the artistic café culture of the era.
Based on Suze, a liqueur said to have been loved by Picasso, the cocktail evokes a mysterious black cat quietly accompanying the artists gathered in cafés. A playful cocktail to savor alongside the lingering afterglow of the exhibition.

三菱一号館美術館と東京駅丸の内駅舎。いずれも日本を代表する近代建築であり、師であるジョサイア・コンドルと、その弟子である辰野金吾の建築を比較できる貴重な存在です。ともに赤レンガ造りを特徴とし、窓枠の装飾や柱頭飾り、フィニアル、ドーマー窓など随所に共通する意匠が見られます。
一方で、複数の企業の事務所として建てられた三菱一号館には、各オフィスへ直接出入りできるよう入口が複数設けられ、表通りと裏庭で異なる表情を見せるなど、実用性と多様性が感じられます。対して駅舎として建てられた東京駅丸の内駅舎は、中央に貴賓玄関を配し、両翼の大きなドームが街のランドマークとしての存在感を際立たせています。建築用途の違いが、そのまま意匠や構造の個性として表れている点も興味深いところです。
いずれも現在の姿に至るまで「ふくげん」工事を経ていますが、そこには「復元」と「復原」という異なる考え方があります。一号館の「復元」とは、失われ現存しない建物を当初の姿に再現すること。駅舎の「復原」とは、改造や劣化によって変化した建物を、本来の姿へ戻すことを意味します。
時代を超えて受け継がれる近代建築を見比べながら歩けば、丸の内の街に刻まれた歴史や、美意識の系譜をより深く感じられるはずです。
Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo and Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building are both iconic examples of Japan’s modern architecture, offering a rare opportunity to compare the works of mentor and disciple: Josiah Conder and Kingo Tatsuno.
Both buildings share distinctive red-brick façades and architectural details such as ornamental window frames, decorated capitals, finials, and dormer windows. Yet their differences reveal the unique purposes for which they were designed. Originally built as office spaces for multiple companies, Mitsubishi Ichigokan features several entrances that allowed direct access to individual offices, while the design of the street-facing façade differs subtly from that of the inner courtyard.
In contrast, the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building was conceived as a grand railway station. Its central imperial entrance and the imposing domes at both wings emphasize its symbolic presence as a gateway to the capital. The differing functions of the two buildings are reflected beautifully in their architectural expressions.
As you walk through Marunouchi comparing the modern architectural masterpieces that have been passed down through generations, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the history etched into the district and the lineage of aesthetic sensibilities that continue to shape it.
